You are standing in the middle of a swamp. How our plant could still be built.
The bankruptcy of the Wigo company in the early 1980s marked the end of an era in Schwenningen. But as is often the case in life: when one door closes, another opens. Helios increasingly reaches the limits of its premises in Lupfenstrasse and takes over the factory premises in Rottweiler Strasse, initially still in their original state. Long-time residents may still remember the distinctive storage tent, which was also taken over by Wigo and used for seasonal items such as fan heaters. The construction is particularly challenging in winter - the entire outer shell has to be heated to cope with the snow load.
Over the years, it becomes increasingly clear that even the newly acquired capacities are not sufficient and the ageing warehouse tent is to make way for a state-of-the-art logistics complex. But the site is challenging, consisting largely of moorland. In order to build the high-bay warehouse, which is over 100 meters long, the foundation work alone is already costing several million. Over an area of 16,000 m², more than 500 tubes with a thickness of 65 cm each filled with quartz sand have to be sunk up to 20 m deep into the ground in order to prepare the swampy subsoil for the construction project.
