We are revolutionizing ski jumping training.

Ski jumping without a ski jump? It's not the first crazy idea to be successfully implemented by our engineers. That's why the decision was quickly made when the Freiburg Olympic base approached Helios with precisely this idea. Since this summer, the ski jumping facility in Hinterzarten has been used for training and perfecting jumping techniques in a completely new way. Helios invested countless hours in the design and development of the wind tunnel before this unique project could go into operation. Together with Offenburg University of Applied Sciences, various flow simulations were carried out, followed by the construction of a prototype, which ski jumping legend Martin Schmitt personally tried his hand at, and finally the construction of the apparatus, which was developed under strict confidentiality requirements until the very end.

The project in figures

  • 2 Helios AVD 1400 axial fans generate an air flow rate of 310,000 m³/h.
  • With wind speeds of 100 km/h, the simulator is not only suitable for training purposes, but also enables scientific tests to be carried out.
  • The project is the result of 4.5 years of research and development work.
